chaste:adj Something that is chaste is very simple in style, without very much decoration.

stormy spring:多事之春

defaults:vi.未履行任务或责任;受传唤时未出庭;由于不到庭而败诉;弃权

                   vt.未履行,拖欠;未参加或完成(例如,比赛);[法]因未到庭而败(诉)

                    n.未履行,拖欠;[法]未到庭;弃权;[计] 缺省,默认

shot up:激增

sacrosanct:If you describe something as sacrosanct, you consider it to be special and are unwilling to see it criticized or changed

lose their nerve:手忙腳亂


frailty:If you refer to the frailties or frailty of people, you are referring to their weaknesses.

write off:If someone writes off a debt or an amount of money that has been spent on a project, they accept that they are never going to get the money back.

bebolden:If you are beholden to someone, you are in debt to them in some way or you feel that you have a duty to them because they have helped you.

throttle:If you say that something or someone is throttling a process, institution, or group, you mean that they are restricting it severely or destroying it.
