お爺さんと兎

むかし、むかし、

おじいさんがおりました。おじいさんはきこりで、毎日山で木をきっておりました。ある日のこと、たくさん木をきったので、すっかり疲れてしまいました。

「ああ、疲れた。それに、お中もすいた。」

と、木のかぶに腰をかけ、おにぎりを食べようとして、前を見ると、草の間から、兎がさも食べたそうに①おじいさんを見ていました。

「おお、お前も食べたいのか。」

そういって、おにぎりを一つなげました。すると、おにぎりはひとりでにころがって、穴の中に入ってしまいました。すると兎はぴょんと、穴の中へ入っていきました。すると穴の中から、

「おにぎり、ころりん、すっとんとん。」

といい声で歌が聞こえました。おじいさんは驚きました。そこで②、もう一つおにぎりをその穴の中へころがしました。するとまた

「おにぎり、ころりん、すっとんとん。」

といい声がしました。おじいさんは面白くなって、おにぎりをつぎからつぎとなげこみ、おにぎりをみんななげこんでしまいました。

次の日のことです。おじいさんが

「今日はどうかな。」

と思って、おにぎりをなげこみました。すると、昨日のように

「おにぎり、ころりん、すっとんとん。」

といい声で歌が聞こえました。そこでまた、おにぎりをつぎとなげこみました。

またその次の日もおじいさんは

「今日はどうだろう。」

とおにぎりをなげこみました。やはりいい声で歌が聞こえました。そこでまた、おにぎりを一つ残らずなげこみました。おにぎりばかりでなく、つい面白がって、お弁当箱までなげこみました。すると、

「お弁当箱、ころりん、すっとんとん。」

と歌が聞こえました。

おじいさんは面白いので、今度は自分で穴のそばへ行き、中をのぞきました。すると足がすべって、穴の中へおちました。と、今度は

「おじいさん、ころりん、すっとんとん。」

と歌いました。おじいさんは目をぱちくりして、まわりを見まわしました。驚いたことに、たくさんの鬼がうすをならべて、おもちを搗いていました。そしてみんなで、声をそろえて、歌っていたのです。おじいさんが落ちてきたのを見ると、みんなもちつきをやめ、おじいさんの前に並びました。その中の一番大きな兎が、おじいさんにあいさつしました。

「おじいさん、おにぎりを毎日ありがとうございます。今日は、正月のもちつきをしております。どうぞ、ゆっくり遊んでいってください。」

「おにぎり、ころりん、すっとんとん。お弁当箱、ころりん、すっとんとん。おじいさん、ころりん、すっとんとん。」

と声をそろえて歌いながら、もちつきをはじめました。おもちがつきあがる③とおじいさんに大きなおもちがだされました。おじいさんが食べてみると、とてもおいしいおもちでした。

おじいさんはおもちをたくさん食べ、たくさんのお土産をもらって、家へ帰りました。むかし、むかしのお話です。
