People nowadays are surrounded by all kinds of advertising. Advertising affects what people think is important and it has a negative influence on people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Advertisements invade people’s daily lives in this day and age. It’s been calculated that ordinary people are exposed to as many as 10,000 ads per day. As for me, I stand up for the viewpoint that each advertisement is doing its utmost to influence individuals’ buying decisions cognitively and advertising impacts people’s lives negatively.
To begin with, a substantial number of advertisements conveying messages at odds with each other are manipulative, deceptive and even untruthful, but they cement into consumers’ consciousness and plant unrealistic notions and expectations in the minds of impressionable viewers. The founder of Revlon once said that “In our factory, we make lipstick. In our advertising, we sell hope." Actually, it seems that everyone drives a fast, sleek car, lives in a grand villa and wears expensive designer clothing or jewelry in some commercials, which often lead the ordinary mortal to purchase things they cannot afford in an effort to keep up with those fictional Joneses in commercials and leaflets.
Furthermore, in order to entice people to buy items that make them feel something or acquire something desirable, advertising presents an exaggerated, distorted view of the world by constantly bombarding individuals in various forms. For example, in fast food advertisements, kids are having fun with their families and friends while drinking coke and filling themselves with fried chicken, hamburgers, French fries, ice creams and so forth. Consequently, children are particularly vulnerable to negative effects of such advertising and are keen on fast food after watching the advertising posters, videos, and short films of it. Nevertheless, the truth is that obesity and other diet related complications are on the significant increase among children due to the vast consumption of fast food.
All in all, advertisements generally fool potential buyers into thinking that only certain products or services can make them feel better in an age of conspicuous consumption. Therefore, advertising poses a detrimental effect on people’s lives.
