Chopsticks originated from branches in the countrysides 3000 years ago...Our ancenstor call Yu wanted to eat meat..but the meat was so hot..The he used two branches to nip the meat, then ate them. then he found this way was so convenient to eat food. People followed him to use chopsticks to eat food. Before this, Chinese also needed hands to grab food. :)
Chopsticks are one pair. Pair(双）in Chinese is a very lucky word. Chinese like even number, and you may find Chinese will hold big events like getting married, moving house and having ceremony on an even number date. Chopsticks also mean Yin Yang (阴阳）for Chinese. One is moving and the other is not moving. It symbolized male and female, good
and bad, day and night. You could tell the old China from chopsticks.
You could also send someone chopsticks which are made of Jade or well packaged, especially for wedding. It means you want them to have smart baby soon.
Tips: You should know below behavior is not polite when using chopsticks:
-Plug chopsticks into rice directly; (it is used when people die)
-Use chopsticks to stir food
-Appoit someone directly with chopsticks.
