Thank Yanli,Mengmeng and Li Juan for giving open classes.The first class ought to be given by me.Because of the terrible cold, a series of smaller things and my laziness,they gave the open classes before me.Thank you,my dear workmates.Let me narrate my open class.
When I decided to give a class,I didn't know which lesson I would choose. Becaue it depended on their mastery of Section A and Section B.On Tuesday,I thought I ought to teach Section C.
Preparing the lesson was a diffcult process,especially the lead-in.I sat for a long time before the computer and I was thinking about how to give this lesson while I was having meals,washing my face,brushing my teeth and doing the housework.I had a clear frame until this Saturday afternoon.
The PWP was used to teach SectionC. The PWP means pre-learning,while-learning and post-learning.Almost all the lessons can be learnt by using PWP.
Learning aims:Mater and use the invitation and the answers(yes).
Step1:Lead-in
1.The students have already learnt the song YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE and We have just learned the important phrase "sing a song".I guided the lesson in the following way .I : "So many excellent teachers come to our class.Would you like to sing a song for our dear teachers, Miss Wang ( Mr.Xu, sir,madam)?"I asked four students.Of course,they accepted the suggestion.Then I asked all the students the same question. They said "Yes,I'd love to". We sang the English song together.
2.After singsing the song,I asked,"Are you happy after singing the song?""Yes,I am.""But this old man isn't happy.Why?Can you guess?"Some students said,"His clothes are too old."Some said,"He has no friends."One said,"His house is too old." "He wants to have a picnic."The students guessed the reasons excitedly.
Step 2 Pre-reading
1.Present the important points:Would you like_____a picnic with Mr.Cooper?How/ What about _____a picnic with Mr. Cooper? I had two students fill in the blanks by choosing people randomly by computer.The first student that was chosen was Wang Shida.He is a student who does quite badly in learning.I had to ask him,"Do you know the answer?"in Chinese.He shook his head.He even couldn't say"No,I don't."in English.I turned to Hou Aolong whose English was very good."Would you like to help Wang Shida ? How about helping Wang Shida?"But he is too short to get the blank.I continued looking for students to fill in the blanks by using the structure"Would you like to do... ?and How/What about doing...?" However, something that I didn't expect happened:Xu Yuxin wrote "have",one wrote "haveing",Yao Bosheng said he didn't know the answer.I didn't know whether I cried or laughed.I had taught the sentence for two weeks at least."Thank you for presenting so many mistakes for everyone to avoid making the similar ones."I said humorously. At last,Yue Dongxu wrote the right answer.I shook his hand excitedly and said,"Thank you very much."
2.Look at the pictures and discuss the following questions in pairs.
Step3 While-reading
1.Read 1a and check your prediction.Students answered together.
2.Read 1a again and finish 1b. I made a mistake.I wrote 1b as 1c incorrectly.
3.Check 1b and discuss 1a in groups.
4.Point out the important points:The new ways to accept an invitation--"Thanks. That would be very nice."and"I'd like that,thanks." Write them on the blackboard.
5.Watch the flash of 1a.Read after the flash and read 1a by themselves.
This step is smooth.
Step 4 Post-reading
1.Stand up and act out 1a in groups.If a group is ready,the members of this group can sit down.Then I will choose 2 groups.There are five roles in the conversation,while four students in a group.I said,"I'll choose one classmate by computer to be the kindest role.Because all of classmates in our class are very kind."My purpose was having everyone pay attention to the sentences about invitation.When I chose the group that would act,almost every classmate was as excited as usual.They raised their hands highly and cried,"Choose me,choose me!"
When Zheng Jiaqi from Class 2 played the part of pterosaur,she used two exercise books as two wings.It is very funny.
2.Writing.Write a passage about your picnic.The following questions may help you."You can go anywhere that you want to go.It's free.It's free.It's free."We had just learned the word free.It has two meanings.One is 有空的.The other one is 免费的.So I said the sentence three times.
Step 5 Homework.
This is a normal class.It is neither special nor surprising.In the past,I taught lots of knowledge in an open class.I always wanted to teach students all the key points of this lesson.I didn't think about if students could absorb new knowledge.I only noticed if I could finish the task.But now,I only present knowledge in moderation and adjust the lesson at any time.In the past,I did addition in the class.Now, I do subtraction in the class.I want to know if they are two extremes.
Thank my workmates for your reviews. Miss Si advised me to pay attention to writing O in an anticlockwise direction. Miss Wei told me that we should call adults Miss,Mr,sir or madam.I think if I call students these,they may think it is funny. But I made a mistake.The students perhaps don't how to use these words correctly.I should tell them the correct usage of these words first.
I hope I can make progress after each open class.
