I read a drawing book called <The Gruffalo>, written by Julia Donaldson, a little story about a mouse and a gruffalo. It reminds me of the Chinese tale “The fox and the Tiger”, so now you know what is it about?
A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood. A fox saw him and wanted to eat him, so the fox pretend to invite him for a lunch in his underground house. The mouse was not afraid and said, “Thank you, but I am going to have lunch with a gruffalo.”The fox wondered, “What is a gruffalo?” The mouse said with surprised, “What? You don’t know the gruffalo? He has terrible tusks, terrible claws, and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws.””Where are you meeting him？“ the fox asked. Pointing to the stone, the mouse said, “ Here by these rocks. And you know what, his favourite food is roasted fox.” When hearing the gruffalo is going to eat him, the Fox terrified and run away. When the little mouse alone again, he gladly said, “Silly old Fox! Doesn’t he know, there ‘s no such thing as a gruffalo ?”
On went through the deep dark wood, the mouse met an owl and a snake, both of them wanted to eat him. But the mouse was not afraid, used the story of gruffalo to scared them away. However, this is not the end of the story. Do you really think the gruffalo a fake creature? Total not. When the mouse went ahead into the dark wood, he happened to a ugly beast, with terrible claws and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws. He had knobbly knees and turned-out toes, and a poisonous wart at the end of his nose. And, his eyes were orange, his tongue was black. He had purple prickles all over his back. On no! wasn't it a gruffalo?! The mouse wanted to run away, but the gruffalo saw him too and said “My favourte food! You’ll taste good on a slice bread!” Mouse scared, but still said loudly, “Good? Don’t call me good. I am the scariest creature in this wood. Just walk behind me and soon you’ll see. Everyone is afraid of me.” “OK, you go ahead, I’ll behind you to see if really as what you say,” said the Gruffalo. Then the mouse and the gruffalo went though the wood, they met the fox, the owl and the snake. All of them ran away at a instant. “Now you see,” said the mouse proudly, “They are all afraid of me.””Ye..Yes, you are right, you are the kind of this wood.” Said the Gruffalo terrified .
“ But now my tummy’s beginning to rumble. My favourite food is ---greffalo crumble!” “Greffalo crumble?! On no, I have to go now, bye little mouse.”Gruffalo as quick as the wind he turned and fled. Now all was quite in the deep dard wood. The mouse picked a peanut and it tasted really good.
This is the whole story of <The Gruffalo>, interesting, isn’t it? What drew me in was the character of the little mouse. He was really small and the fox, the owl, the snake and the gruffalo all bigger than him, and the worst things was all of them wanted to eat him. But he was a really brave animal, was not afraid of them, and used his wise to scared away the beast. We can using this story to teach our kids that, you need to use your brain to help you get out of dangerous.
And you can expect the beautiful drawings in the book. The wood, the animals, so real that you may think they are at the front of you. Your children will really like it. I think it is suitable for all ages. For the junior kids, they can see the pictures; when they grow up, parents can tell them the story and learn the languages used in this book. I am now in my twenties and I do really love it. You’ll WOW to this book.
