Pour Your Heart Into It 读书笔记I

After reading Chapter 1 of the English edition Pour Your Heart Into It, it's found that I understood only 90% of the content, but 10% left contains words and expressions which are new to me. Reading the Chinese edition of the book once more helped me to go through the difficult left 10%. Studying English books is an effective way to improve the standard of English. Practices make perfect. The only way to master the English language is to read, write, listen and speak more.

Howard Schultz, the founder and CEO of Starbucks, was born in poor blue-collar worker class. He felt looked down since childhood, and helped out the family expenses by doing many part-time jobs. But he loved sports very much and was famous as a quarterback in the football team of his high school. What changed his life was that a college staff got to his unknown high school to choose an excellent athlete for his college football team, and observed Howard's performance in the football team but Howard knew nothing about that. After a few days, Howard received an admission letter from University of Michigan, which was a big surprise to him. As the saying opportunities always favors the prepared minds goes, Howard couldn't obtain the offer from UMich if he was not remarkable in football. On the other hand, one needs to get the help from nice people in his life, so as to jump to a higher energy state, in accordance with the law of conservation of energy.

Howard Schultz maintained his four-year university life by fellowship, student loan, and doing part-time jobs. Howard earned money even by selling blood under the stress of poverty, which indicates that everybody's success is forced out. If we put ourselves in Howard's position forced to selling blood, what is the experience like? We shall have the concept of zero clearing that what we would do if suddenly having nothing at all. Howard succeeded well in his career six years after graduation, because he had a specific goal to make money.

The reason why I like to watch American movies and TV series and read American books, consists in that it is integrated to combine Chinese and Western elements, as the earth is round. We shall possess reverse thinking that we see things differently from another angle. We may treasure something of which we took no notice at one time.
