多媒体时代，正是不同视觉表现形式，趋于个性化发展与盛行的阶段，代表着个体意识的作品，大多带有对社会事物进行集体命运渲染的色彩。以至于当代艺术除了具象风格外，多种思考或探索性较强的作品，已逐渐形成，这主要源于，由社会形态反映、展现的内容，更加丰富所致，也因为个体意识开始有条理的介入公共秩序的缘故。
所以，当代艺术已完全脱离了传统观念，个体表达成为共性需求的必然因素，表现形式、风格和路径，不仅呈现出多样化，叙事语言与张力，也已成为重要手段。
