On the way back home, I was caught in the rain, which was so sudden and rapid. Thanks to the drying machine, my clothing all got back to normal. After seeing the weather forecast, I got to know there would be extreme weather like thunderstorms and hail throughout this week. It seems that for my own sake, I had better take the bus instead of walking these days.
What was comforting was that a delicious odor greeted me when I opened the door. And it turned out that today's dinner was prepared by Aaron and every dish including the fish, chicken and asparagus was so tasty! Ling said Aaron was able to cook since he was fourteen and he was indeed a good cook. Compared with him, I felt so guilty of knowing nothing about the kitchen. It is true that cooking is a must-have ability to survive and live better, especially being exposed to an unfamiliar environment overseas. Then I asked whether it had anything to do with genes because I wondered why my dad was an excellent cook but I had absolutely no idea how to cook. The answer I have got was, "Practice makes perfect."
I recalled my growing process and realised that since my childhood, I was not encouraged to enter the kitchen because it was considered not to be clean but full of oil smoke. However, Ling's kitchen is very tidy and everyone is welcomed to cook anything he wants. So it depends on their attitude and ability whether people can make the kitchen a decent place. What is more, parents are supposed to play a model role in teaching their children how to cook so that their children are able to learn by watching and doing. Above all, good parenting involves not only caring and loving but also showing their children how to become independent and live well on their own.
