After five years, Stacy came back the city that she had lived in for many years. It was a sunny afternoon in the former part of October. Autumn in this city still made people comfortable, not too cold or too hot. Stacy walked along the street which she was so familiar with that she even remembered the location of the bus stop, the barbecue house, and the bookstore. When Stacy caught sight of the cafe she used to go, she walked into the cafe and ordered her favorite pearl milk tea. Looking around to choose a seat, she suddenly saw a familiar figure.
Stacy couldn’t inhibit her excitement, “Oh, my god! It’s really you!”
"Amazing!" The man replied, with surprise in his eyes.
“Are you alone? Can I sit here?” She pulled the chair opposite him.
“Of course.” He answered, “I am so amazed that I have forgotten to ask you to sit down.”
Before he could finish speaking, she sat down and said, “How long haven’t we see each other? Almost five years? You haven’t changed a bit. When I saw your silhouette, I recognized you immediately.”
“Your hair is longer, and you seem to be more mature.” He gazed at her with a smile, “How have you been in York these years?”
There was a little pride on her face, “Not bad. I have become a professional writer, as I dreamed of all the time. What about you? Have you had good years?”
At that moment, the waitress came toward them with a glass of milk tea, “Please enjoy your milk tea.” Although she laid the glass on the table gently, the pearls at the bottom of the glass swayed.
“You still love pearl milk tea.” He breathed the words.
Stacy glanced at a cup of black tea in his left hand and said softly, “But you don’t drink Sprite any more.” She also noticed the scar on his right hand, which had been caused by an accident five years ago.
It was a warm afternoon in autumn, when they quarreled on the balcony, a window breaking suddenly. He subconsciously stretched out his right hand, blocking a piece of broken glass that flew to her. Blood seeped from the wound, one drop, two drops... The air seemed to solidify at that moment. Stacy stood here, at a loss for words. It was a few minutes before she could react to what had happened just now. The blood on the floor was particularly dazzling under the sunlight. She held his injured hand and tears could not cease to fall. But he just touched her head gently with the other hand, “It doesn’t matter. I don’t feel any pain.”
After all these years, the scar was still striking. He found Stacy noticed the scar, putting down the cup in hand and pulling down the sleeve.
“So, what are you doing now?” There was a trace of sadness in her eyes. How she blamed herself for his injury, which resulted that he couldn’t play piano any more, but he was so fond of music.
“A conductor. A concert conductor.” He squeezed a smile, “It’s not too bad. It’s still a bit related to music.”
“Do you know that I have been excepting to meet you again for so many years? After I get along with many people, I am more convinced that the one who will accompany with me to spend the rest of my life is only you.” She could no longer suppress her feelings.
He drew up the chair and stood up, “Sorry, I have to leave. I am going to pick up my child in the kindergarten. I am very glad to meet you today. Goodbye. Hope you are doing well!”
After that, he left without looking back. He had gone. She sat there, thunder-struck, astounded beyond words... She picked up the glass and took a sip of milk tea. Tears trickled down her cheeks into the milk tea, one drop, two drops...
Around the corner, a man leaned against the wall, holding a cigarette trembling with his right hand.
“You deserve a better man.”
