When Riley got up the bus that headed to Minnesota, the family island collapsed. Meanwhile Joy lost her last hope, she felt so guilty and all the sad feelings overwhelmed her, she just gave up being positive. She stayed in the dumpsite of memories, staring at all those grey and dim memory spheres. Then she began to cry, the tears drop and touched one of the memory balls.

Suddenly, the grey ball turned into blue and she saw Sadness through the ball. Then she realized that this is one of the memory balls of Sadness. It was the memory about Sadness's childhood and somehow this memory ended up in the dumpsite. From the ball, she saw that Sadness was in the classroom attending the final examination of Five Feelings and to her surprise, in the application form it read Joy. So Sadness wanted to be the feeling of Joy.

Joy could not believe this! She kept watching the sphere. She saw that when Sadness concentrated in the examination, the alarm of console rang out and it caught Sadness's attention. From the screen of console, Sadness saw that baby Riley was sleeping in her own cradle quietly, but she moved herself a little bit and she was about to fell down. There was no one nearby the console and no one noticed it! Sadness ran out of the classroom without any hesitation, she didn't know what to do and she was so panic that she touched the button of the dream of sadness, then baby Riley had a nightmare and she woke up and burst into tears, Riley's mother ran into the baby room and found Riley crying, she hugged her and made her calm down. Sadness save Riley's life!

But when she returned to the classroom the examination had already ended and she was judged to be Sadness because she touched the button of the dream of sadness without the permission of the principal.

Joy was shocked by watching the story of Sadness, she didn't know that being Sadness was never her own wish. She stopped crying and she made her decision to find Sadness and she need to let both Riley and Sadness know the fact that Sadness was the one who saved Riley's live when she was just a baby.
