The Help week 3

chapter 19-26

The story is getting intense in the last third, which, along with the dreadful deadline, compels me to read 10 chapters in a single evening. More colored people get involved in Miss Skeeter’s plan; Miss Skeeter is getting stronger and determined; Miss Celia’s secrete is revealed and turns out to be a brainless but cute lady; Minny was abused by her husband; Miss Hilly is dominating as always but now be challenged and pissed off.

Feels like I am watching a standard American Movie that good guys are vindicated and bad guys are punished. I know it sounds cliche but I’d rather watch a happy ending.

At first, I can only sense the humor in Minny’s narration, which I have cited partly in my last journal. Then I spot more funny phrases in this novel, the author is really funny and I sometimes just underlie the sentences that make me laugh.

And here I would like to share those sentences with you:

She’s dressed in a white sweater so tight it’d make a hooker holy.

Chocolate my foot. = 巧克力个锤子

-“Bosoms are for bedrooms and breastfeeding. Not for occasions with dignity.”

-“Well, what do you want her to do, Eleanor? Leave them at home?


And some practical epressions we can learn from the book:

1. You don’t give them the benefit of doubt, you just get the hell rid of them.
