1. Onoda, a Japanese second Lieutenant, was deployed to a small island in Philippines to hold back the US army in 1944, since when he had been fighting at all costs and never surrended.

Even though the war was over in 1945, Onoda refused to believe it no matter how many flyers or photoes were dropped to inform the remaining soldiers of the news.

He was searched for for almost 30 years after he was known as the last holdout but wasn't found until a hippie boy came to the jungle for him and convinced him the reality.
