My story

By Rita

Now I am a Yi people in Yunnan Provence, but in the past eight years I was a Han people. Why was that and what happened? We all know that in China minorities people can get some advantages in our college entrance examination , so my parents due to let my older sister more likely to be a winner on this test ,later my older sister and I changed our ethic. However, it's useless for us. Because my older sister admitted entrance college examination successfully and for me this minority's advantage was not used. Then I gradually realized that minority is important for me and I have more and more interests in ethic culture. Because my mother is original Yi people and she speaking Yi language in her hometown. To be honest, when I was young, my mother wanted me to learn Yi language, but you know in my class ,most of  my classmates think Yi language is extraneous language. So I ashamed to speaking this. Until one day, I saw accidently two Yi language sentences on the wall and I was shakened of this.Later I have a little interest on my ethic. Why I say that? In my mother hometown, having no people can write Yi language, they just simply speaking it expect a few reachers. I couldn't remember what day my grandmother played a clever trick on me that was  using Yi language to ask me  "Nao Mi Dou Mu Zuo Zuo? "At that time, my mother and my older sister also besided me.Although my older sister wasn't local people in Yi area, she lived there from two years old and she can know all meaning of Yi language. Certainly, she knowed that my grandmother 's means. To be honest, it's too funny. When I thought a few minutes, I replied 'yes! '. But actually, it means that "do you want to eat mouse" .I was really really surprised, because I just thought that this mouse pronunciation in yi language is likely to rice in Han language,it's so funny.Above all, I am interested in Yi language and culture.
