5. Winston took up his mug of gin, paused for an instant to collect his nerve, and gulped the oily-tasting stuff down. 这里collect his nerve 是鼓起勇气，在chapter 1中出现Winston poured out a teacupful ,nerved for a shock ,and gulped it down，nerve是作为动词=get ready for sth difficult or unpleasant.
6. He had brightened up immediately at the mention of Newspeak . 一提起新语，Syme一下子来了精神（brighten up ）
7. Mouthful, spoonful 看着像形容词，其实是名词。在Chapter 5中有 He began swallowing spoonfuls of the stew / He swallowed a couple of mouthfuls. 吃了几口的表达

【赏析】
在chapter 5 中介绍了Syme，一个负责编纂新说词典的专家,通过对这个人物的描写，我们了解到了新说到底是个什么东西，摧毁语言到了极点（to the bone）
Our chief job is inventing new words .But not a bit of it! We‘re destroying words –scores of them, hundreds of them, every day. We are cutting the language down to the bone.
It’s a beautiful thing, the destruction of words…. Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten. …. Orthodoxy means not thinking – not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness.
摧毁！摧毁！ 语言失去了丰富的含义，人类的文明、文化随着新语的建立都将毁之殆尽。人人成为失去思想，不用思考的行尸走肉(dummy)。
Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it. Parsons swallowed it easily, with the stupidity of an animal. The eyeless creature swallowed it fanatically ……. Syme, too –in some more complex way ……. Was he, then, along in the possession of a memory.
时隔一日，媒体就推翻了前一日的报道，信口开河，可是周围的人们仿佛都已丧失了记忆，深信不疑(三个swallow= believe it completely)。 对于Winston ，众人皆醉我独醒的痛谁人知？谁人知？
