不硬背规则 也能学语法

It has been a long time since I updated my blog. I've been learning grammar recently, so I am very busy.

I used to think grammar was not important. If I listen and read more, I can be good at English, but that is wrong; if I only need listening and speaking, I don't need grammar; the US has many illiteracy do not know many words, let alone grammar. But if I want to write correctly, I need to use grammar. Without learning it, my essay draft always has too many mistakes.

Recently, I read some grammar books. First is the 语法俱乐部, which is a good book for the essential meaning of grammar rules and why some grammar is created; the author wants to tell us not to learn by rote, so he does not tell us any detailed rules in grammar.

Secondly, I read 赖世雄经典语法; I think this is the other type of grammar book that tells you many detailed rules to rote. I learned some valuable things from this book, but after I read half of it, I almost wanted to give up learning grammar because it gave me ten thousand rules to rote. I did not give up but did not rote either; I decided to learn grammar by writing. After I finished my essay draft, I checked my grammar errors and took notes on Word. After I used this method for about a week, I found it was too inefficient because I made a lot of different kinds of mistakes, and it was hard to remember. I think I need another grammar book for help.

Finally, I found Grammar In Use by Cambridge; this is an excellent grammar series. It has three books, and I just finished the first one. I made many improvements after finishing it because this book made me do a lot of sentence practice.

Grammar is all about making correct sentences, but the grammar rules are too many because of the vast human experience and knowledge, so rote is almost impossible. We can use good grammar books to do some basic practice and then use them daily until we memorize enough grammar rules.
