Words and expressions
1. State
It means the mental, emotional or physical condition that a person or thing is in.
E.g. She was in state of shock.
He is not in a fit state to drive.
This old building is in a bad state of repair.
2. Get into such a mess
Get yourself/sb into sth
It means to reach a particular state or condition; to make sb reach a particular state or condition.
E.g. He got into trouble with his best friend, as he falls in love his girlfriend.
3. Set on fire
Set the world on fire (usually used in negative sentences)
It means to be very successful and gain the admiration of other people.
E.g. The teacher told her that she would never set the world on fire with her appearance.
4. Break out
It means to start suddenly
E.g. Arguments broke out between consumers and the shop owner.
5. Aim... at
E.g. The gun was aimed at her head.
Be aim at sth/doing
It means to have sth as an aim.
E.g. These laws are aimed at preventing unemployment.
6. Post verb.
It means to send sb to a place for a period of time as part of their job.
E.g. She had been posted to a rural area for five years.
