I got a hand sewing machine after two months when my husband told me last year . During that two months, I asked my husband about sewing machine many times. I wanted to make some children’s clothes for my daughter.
My grandmother was a famous tailor at her time in our hometown. Because of the short of everything in that time,you needn’t to buy any clothes in the market.They only asked a tailor to their home and make some clothes at a very special day such as for a wedding party or in Spring Festival. If the quality is a little better or the cost is higher than normal ones, they will keep their clothes more than 10 years, and only weared them at special days like visiting friends or relatives. So my grandmother was invited by different customers to their home and made clothes in a whole year. My father also was interested in sewing clothes under the influence of his mother. It was very important that you should learn one skill to raise your family at that time. After having a good result in sewing, my father opened a sewing training class. And the sewing was very popular so that many young girls attended my father class. So I was also influenced by father more or less in my childhood. When my husband said he would give me a hand sewing machine, I deadly wanted to sew some clothes for my child.
After two months later. my husband took back a sewing machine,I immediately bought many tools, cloth,zippers,buttons, sewing books and so on. I told my daughter that I would make many many beautiful clothes for her and asked her to choose some beautiful clothes samples from books then I will make them by samples. She also was very happy and found many beautiful dresses pictures seriously. First, I made some simple clothes such as underwear. After two night making( I was too excited to sleep at first one week), one suit of underwear finished. But nothing went easily as your thought. One leg of trousers was inside-out. I asked my daughter to try them on, after putting on the underwear, she found they were too ugly . I saw the trousers were queer that I can’t help laughing. My daughter thought I was laughed at her, she was too disappointed that she cried suddenly. I have told her before that all her clothes would be made by me in the future. So she thought she hasn’t any courage to wear her mother-made clothes to school. All her classmates will laugh at her. She took seriously of my words.Of course she hasn’t wore them again.
After first sewing, I learned the mistake. So I made a second suit of underwear. But they were still not good. However they haven’t halting my immense zeal from sewing. Then I made a red dress which looked beautiful,but it was still not able to wear. Finally I found the sewing was too difficult for,only interest was not enough, I need to learn the sewing skill if I want to made a suitable clothes.
After two weeks I haven’t used my sewing machine again, but remained many tools, buttons,cloth,zippers,sewing books......
