Having been learning English for almost three decades and teaching it to young learners for nearly two decades, I need to set a new goal for myself to keep myself from being a dull and lazy teacher.
That would be to be an expert teacher. Not just a good teacher, neither an excellent one, I want to be an expert in Elementary English teaching area.
I have lots of teaching experience in English teaching, however, I know it's not enough. Teachers want more than experience from an expert.
Expert should be the guru who has all the answers to any questions the green hands ask. Expert should have a deeper vision towards teaching and could guide his or her team to develope better. Expert should have his or her own style that makes him or her stand out of the normals.
How can a normal teacher like me to be an expert teacher? The only way is to read more and think deeper, and put teaching ideal thoughts into practice. It's a big dream. And I will start small, just like what I am doing now -- writing reflective journals and note down some random thoughts, and keep reading books about teaching techniques or methdologies.
Roman wasn't built in one day. There's a long way to go. But I am glad that I am on my way.
