When it comes to the preservation of old buildings, the issue has triggered a widespread discussion about what kind of old buildings are worth preserving. From my perspective, I strongly incline to the standpoint that those old historic buildings of cultural and aesthetic significance should be conserved. As for me, the positives far outweigh its negatives.
First and foremost, the maintenance of old historic buildings with cultural value is extremely significant. For example, the Great Wall of China like a gigantic dragon winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus, stretching approximately 21,196 kilometers from east to west of China, which is one of the most appealing attractions owing to its historic and cultural significance. Similarly, if the pyramids of Egypt were not preserved in a reasonable way, nowadays people would not have the slightest idea of such great ancient wonders.
Furthermore, some old buildings with aesthetic value are worth protecting. If the Cathedrals of the Medieval and Renaissance periods were not maintained and preserved, these magnificent architectural works would have been reduced to ruins. Therefore, from an architectural or artistic point of view, they are considered to be particularly worthy of protection.
For the benefit of present and future generations, it is essential to have measures in place to protect and conserve old buildings of special architectural or historic importance. For one thing, proper preservation not only preserves the historic character of old buildings but also maximizes the use of existing materials and infrastructure, reduces waste and is environmentally friendly. For another, preserving historic old buildings keeps the history and culture of a place alive, which may bring about a plurality of social and economic advantages.
All in all, old historic buildings are precious assets and it’s worth appropriately preserving than others. The pros of preserving them outweigh the cons.
