American violinist and conductor Gregory Cardi has passed away – aged just 28.
A graduate of the Colburn School and The Juilliard School, where he studied with Robert Lipsett, Catherine Cho and David Chan, Gregory previously served as Concertmaster of Boston Youth Symphony and the Pacific Music Festival – and as Gerard Schwarz’s Conducting Assistant at the University of Miami.
“Completely heartbroken and devastated to lose our sweet Greg Cardi … to know Greg was to be captivated by his laughter, energy, determination, and genuine spirit … his personality was larger than life yet his soul was tender, soft, and beautiful … gone too soon,” flutist Blair Francis has today said via social media.
“The world lost a really singular, special human yesterday … Greg was the linchpin for entire communities … today I mourn his loss deeply but am also so so very thankful to have known him, learned and laughed with him,” violinist, VC Artist Simone Porter has today said.
“When Greg asked if I wanted to be his roommate at Tanglewood for the summer of 2012 I hesitantly agreed, knowing that I could at least count on some hijinks and entertainment … what I didn’t anticipate was discovering just how genuine and sweet he was when there were fewer people around … we had funny and irreverent conversations as well as deep and sincere ones … Greg, you will be so sorely missed, and you are still so loved,” Atlanta Symphony Principal Bassoonist Andrew Brady has today said.
