Many people are lucky to have been admitted to college ,I am also a lucky one , not because of the higher academic qualification but the harvest of body and mind . This can be a precious treasure I obtain in the journey of college .“The years of hard work ”waited for to bear fruit , higher education is just a start! This is what I leave out of consideration .
Let’s take a step back into your original aspiration when you began to become a freshman in the first place . Did you think that after Gaokao , you would walk into the “paradise of freedom ”without strict “childcare ”management and the mountains of homework ? Unfortunately ，university can not be a base of vocational training . However , it is the “holy land ”gathering numeral classic civilization . As the classic quote saying that , “If I have seen further , it is by standing on the shoulders of giants .”. Leading by higher education , we shoulder the mission of inheriting culture and taking innovative steps . At this moment ,do you think of a Chinese famous motto that “Preserve your dignity as a nobody ; Promote the social welfare as a somebody .”? Higher education , I dare to say , can realize a shift from “nobody”to “somebody”. What I comprehend is accordant with William Jame’s claim that “ a college education can possibly make on your respect , the best thing it can aspire to accomplish for you —— it should help you to know a good man when you see him . ”.
Driven by higher education ,we have powerful ability to self-learning . Professional learning is more than having a course and doing homework . It means for us mastering the study method correctly , managing the study time efficiently , challenging creative activities with courage , handling the test with composure and keeping summarizing and rectifying a fault . This pattern of “self-learning”requires us to learn from teacher’s demonstration , schoolmate ’s action or individual habit .
Take one of my roommates . She often called herself “a lazy bone ”who enjoys lying in bed and binging watching . She is not very good at English but keen on history and novels . At first , she simply idled away the time . Gradually , with teacher’s guidance in class , she began to think questions and positively answer them , expressing her thoughts with history knowledge and writing experience . In addition , by the encouragement of “her example ”, she insisted on getting up and going to bed early each day , working hard in library , at the same time , cultivating her interests with enthusiasm . Now , I often praise her , “You really make a great progress ! I really admire you ! ”.“No . It is your love and persistence in learning that greatly influenced me ! ”she said .
All changes can prove the power of higher education ——prompting us to become a “self-disciplined man”in learning .
If you want to claim that before you go to college , you have been already a learning person , I think it’s necessary to give a interpret of the essence of “teaching and learning ”in college ——higher education effectively connect far-reaching learning and critical thinking ,theoretical knowledge and practical skill ,which covers all-round ability in areas such as morals ,intelligence , physical fitness ,work and aesthetics .
What impressed me most was my lecture on Emerson in a literature class . During the preparation , I spent too much energy in collecting his materials ,reading and analyzing his works ,comprehending and commenting his thinking and designing the interpreting . As I did , my thoughts became clearer and clearer —— I figured out the connection between Emerson’s “transcendentalism”and Chines “Zen idea”and “traveling”so that it could be better to encourage the youth’s thinking . When I gave a lesson , I could saw the students’eagerness of truth as if I wandered in the literature dream filled with splendid spark of ideas . My literature teacher appreciated me and said to me , “I was shocked because you are a model worthy of learning among the teachers and students . I’m so proud of you ! ”.
Now think about it , definitely , it is the model and method of higher education inspire me —— how to proactively acquire knowledge ; how to learn with thinking ; how to be tolerant to diversity ; how to connect theory and practice , how to break the stale rules . Do you know that before this , I was confused for a long time because I didn’t know how to study foreign literature !
Higher education not only makes us self-reliant who can think critically , but also prominent personage who can work well with others . On this point , I really enjoy the significance of labouring . In the first place , it is crucial to maintain the cleanliness and harmony in the dormitory under the joint efforts of all the roommates. There is an old saying that “if one can do small things well , like cleaning the house , he can do anything else well .”Dormitory is the integral part of the college and we shoulder the responsibility of labouring . This is also what the higher education requires .
Furthermore ,it is of equal importance to accomplish a project or a task with gathering the wisdom of team . For example ,we complete the survey together ; we do “company operation” simulation together ; we write a teaching plan together ; we give a recital performance together . From these activities ,“leader” can learn what is “overall planing ” while groups members can learn what is “advice offering ”. The two sides make the best of the both worlds . “A person can’t be successful without a great person .”. Higher education can offer the platform and existing resources to assist us to encounter “a great person ”by communication , debating and collaboration.
Essentially , higher education leads us from self-improvement to co-operation ,enabling us from being a wise man to doing a wise business . If you find you are more confident ,tolerant and powerful , you must be thankful to the higher education that brings multi-culture and morality both in learning and life .
“The way stretches endless ahead and I shall search the truth from all the ups and downs . ”. To some extent , higher education is just a starting point in the journey of self-pursuing ,which can not be easy , profitable , monolithic. It should be arduous , pure and romantic . Only by self-cultivation can we better reach to “Freedom ”and “Dedication ”.
