Hello, everyone. Today, let's talk about part of Shanghai changes ——the Shanghainese.
Shanghainese begins from the ancient Wu language. In Ming and Qing dynasties,Shanghai was a port town, so the Shanghainese grew fast and spread to other areas.
In 1843, Shanghai opened its port. Many foreign companies came to Shanghai. The Shanghainese adopted many new foreign languages, such as coffee ,sofa and so on. In this time, Shanghainese has become a very important symbol of the city culture. It was widely used in movies, operas and novels.
However, in the late 20th century, with the promotion of Mandarin and a large immigrant population came to Shanghai, we seldom use Shanghainese in formal ocations. A lot of young people are used to speak Mandarin, the Shanghainese faced challenge.
Things begin to change nearly. Now, the government is protecting the Shanghainese. Many schools set up Shanghainese classes and the new generation studys Shanghainese by short videos and many other new ways. Shanghainese isn't just a language tool, it sees the incredible changes of Shanghai from a small fish village to a modern international city.
