However, in the late 20th century, with the promotion of Mandarin and a large immigrant population came to Shanghai, we seldom use Shanghainese in formal ocations. A lot of young people are used to speak Mandarin, the Shanghainese faced challenge.
Things begin to change nearly. Now, the government is protecting the Shanghainese. Many schools set up Shanghainese classes and the new generation studys Shanghainese by short videos and many other new ways. Shanghainese isn't just a language tool, it sees the incredible changes of Shanghai from a small fish village to a modern international city.
