We always worry about wasting time but seldom care about our focus. Time is fixed but our focus is flexible. If we spend all day working, we tend to be very proud of our efforts when the day is closed. You work 8 hours one day and so do others. But the focused time that everyone spent was different and this is what we should care about.
As for me, recently, I’m so easy to be distracted by the outside disturbance. And my time is cracked into plenty of short periods. One WeChat message could pull me out of my work at hand. When I recover from the distraction, I might forget what I just did a few minutes before.
I have to admit I couldn’t control my focus well.
People who could control their focus well could easily concentrate on what they’ll do and their brain is in a resting state when they are focusing. But people who are controlled by the outside will cost more mental and physical power to concentrate on the work at hand.
When we begin to learn one new sport like swimming, it’s rather hard for us to master the skills and we have to pay more attention to accomplish one action we just learnt. If we practice the action for a long time, it’ll be easy for us to accomplish and won’t cost us too much attention. It’s the same with focus.
Controlling focus well is difficult for me now but if I give up or put off training myself, I’ll get trapped into a vicious cycle. Practicing controlling my focus deliberately is the best way for me to recover from the distraction.
If we could control our focus well, it’ll be much easier for us to concentrate on our work and we’ll feel more mind flow.
