Arctic possesses unique natural environment and abundant resources with most of its sea areas covered by thick ice by most of years. At present, natural environment of the Arctic is now undergoing rapid changes. Over the past 30 years, the sea ice in the Arctic is continually melting in summer due to rising temperature in this region. According the prediction by scientists, by the middle of the century or even earlier, there may be no ice in the sea waters in this region for some seasons. On one hand, the melting area of the Arctic will not only result in the change of natural environment in this region, but also cause global problems including the acceleration of global warming, the rising of sea level, frequent extreme weather, as well as the damage of biological diversity. On the other hand, the ice melting might gradually change the condition for exploitation and utilization of the Arctic, providing opportunities for businesses around the world to harness sea routes and resources in this region. The commercial use and development of the Arctic will not only exert great impacts on global shipping, world trade as well as global supply of resources, but also bring enormous chance to the economic and social development of this region. Additionally, it would also affect the ways of production and life style for the indigenous people and residents in the Arctic. Moreover, it could cause potential threat on the ecosystem in this region. In dressing with the global issues concerning the Arctic, international community share a common future.
