In the middle of the ocean lay the beautiful green island named Motunui.The villagers lived there entire lives proteced by the island's reef,enjoying calm waters,plenty of fish and shelter from storms.

  The old storytellers kept the legends of the past,especially the story of Te Fiti,an island goddess whose heart had the power to create life.

  Maui,a trickster demigod with a magical fishhook tried to steal Te Fiti's heart!

  But Maui failed,he was struck from the sky by Te ka,an enormous demon of earth and fire.Maui,his hook and the heart were lost to the sea,never to be seen again.

  Gramma Tala enjoyed telling the tale to a group of village children,including her young granddaughter,Moana.

  Little Moana spotted a baby turtle trying to cross the sand,she guided the baby safely to the sea.

  The ocean seemed pleased.Magicaly,it gave her a gift--a bright green stone with a spiral pattern!The heart of Te Fiti!
