Li Xiaolai holds that it is futile to try to manage time, for one can only manage oneself. After the National Day holidays, @Scalers posted a witty joke on his weibo:
如果你觉得国庆七天短的话,那么从今天开始你就会知道七天有多长了。
Which is more worth noticing, estimating how much time it would take us to complete one thing, or estimating how many things, say, reading books, we may finish in a fixed time? Now if I try to finish a book, I would like to take this task as a project. Once I set about reading a book, a form of investment comes up as if I really accept a project. What I will invest in this project is not the time but rather “the resources of concentration.” In this case, the real problem is whether I can get through it before a deadline, or even whether I will quit in the midway. Now that a deadline has been set, so I shall try not to be locked in the pre-set rhythm of the society or the surrounding environment. Questions such as whether Sunday or Monday is the first day of a week shall not confuse me for they are no longer important to me. Before I get through the task cycle, each day is a “task day” and each day is for the final completion of this small task. For time is my friend. In this course lie all sorts of interference, especially those with malice. Neglecting them may lead to some negative sequences but it is worthwhile to disregard them in prepared ways.
