Because I could not stop for Death-
He kindly stopped for me-
The carriage held but just Ourselves-
And Immortality(永生).
We slowly drove--He knew no haste(匆忙)
And I had put away(抛弃,储存)
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility--
We passed the School, where Chilren strove
At Recess(休息)--in the Ring--
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain--
We passed the Setting Sun--
or rather--He passed Us--
The Dews(露珠) drew quivering(颤抖) and chill--
For only Gossamer,my Gown--
My Tippet--only Thlle--
We paused before a House that seemed
A swelling of the Ground--
The Roof was scarcely(几乎不,仅仅) visible--
The Cornice(飞檐)--in the Ground--
Since then--'tis Centuries--and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised(揣测) the Horses'Heads
Were toward Eternity--
1863?
