Hi，guys, it’s a hot day. Please be careful of your chocolate bar. It may melt.
During the class break, I shared this book with my Grade Five student. It can be read by age 6-12 students.
Before we read, let’s know something about the writer Doald Dahl who came from Norway. But he was born in Welse. Besides, he was famous for other works 《Charlie and the Grate Glass Elevator》《Jame and the Giant Peach》…… The writer was once a pilot. Believe it or not?
《Charlie and the chocolate Factory 》was illustrated by Quentin Blake. He was an illustrator and a writer, too.
OK, then we begin to share this picture book. It has twenty-six chapters. Charlie was a poor boy. His mother tried hard to make nice meals. But it was always cabbage, or bread, or potatoes, or more cabbage. He dreamed of eating something else. Most of all, he dreamed of CHOCOLATE! Because there was a chocolate factory near his house. All day long, he could smell that most delicious chocolate smell. ‘If I had just ONE wish,’ Charlie thought, ‘ I would go inside that factory.’
One day, Grandpa Jo was reading the newspaper. ‘Charlie, listen. Five Golden Tickets, each in a bar of Wonka chocolate. Find one, and visit the chocolate factory!’
The next day, Augustus found the first ticket. He was a greedy boy. And nobody liked him. The next lucky child was Veruca. Her parents bought her thousands of Wonka bars. Three tickets left. Charlie hoped he would be lucky on his birthday. Because his family gave him a delicious bar of Wonka chocolate. Perhaps this year it would have a Golden Ticket inside. Poor Charlie. Violet was someone else who found the third ticket. Later Mike has found a Golden Ticket!’
A few days later, Charlie was walking home from school. It was a very cold day. Suddenly, he saw something in the snow. It was some money. To Charlie this meant only one thing...FOOD. ‘I must give it to my mom,’he thought. ‘But first, perhaps I’ll...’ In no time at all, he was inside a shop. After buying a bar of Wonka chocolate, he quickly pulled off paper. What a delicious smell! Then Charlie saw something yellow under the chocolate. He couldn’t believe his eyes.
At last, the five children with their parents, only Charlie with his Grandpa Jo. They had an unusual adventure in the chocolate factory. Other four children went home with their parents. Only left Charlie and he won Mr Wonka’s factory.
This book is really dramatic. It is very interesting. I can’t help laughing. Hey, boys and girls, you try to read by yourselves again. And you can make a mind map or make a book report if you like.
