I just found out some very thought-provoking words from the book Conscious Capitalism. Yeah, I think I must go to share them with others, here is a good channel. Of course, it's a great book, definitely, you can gather a lot of relevant information online if you like. But personally speaking, I kind of more recommend another book named Zero To One. Or you can buy both. They are quite inspirational, providing new insights into enterprise and business.
Okay, let's finish the small talk, turn our attention to the sentences today I would like to share with your guys. Just have a glance at the following passage:
Companies should make a clear distinction between those who just place short-term bets on their stock and those who invest for the long term because they want to see the business grow and flourish over time. You should feel a higher level of obligation to long-term investors than to short-term speculators, just as you do in your personal lives with your friends and family compared to strangers.
(Bill George) I believe to serve shareholders best, you should listen to long-term shareholders. Listen to the founders, the owners, people who are really committed to building the enterprise, not the short-term traders hoping to make a quick profit.
It is a waste of time to try to develop a relationship with somebody who's not going to be there. This is true not only in personal relationships but in business relationships as well.
Here is an English channel, at least it is supposed to be. But after taking some necessary factors into account (for example, I'm afraid I fail to express myself clearly causing some avoidable misunderstanding), to serve my audience best, I really think I should make some changes and adjustments. Therefore, it will come as no surprise that I gonna use Chinese in some areas.
Then let me tell you why I think they deserve more attention and exposure. That's why share them with you here. Simply, I couldn't agree with this philosophy anymore, not just in business but in life —— treat the long-term investor well and listen to them.
I believe that some of you in front of the screen will say, " well, it's just a basic fact, everybody knows it, like common sense." But, in reality, that's not always the case. Still, there are a lot of people failing to recognize who is really important to our life or who genuinely cares about our interests, and to treat those people fairly with enough credit.
Take some Phoenix men, for example, they are charming and gentle to outsiders like friends or workmates because they treat those people very well, presenting them in good manners. But everything changes, once they walk into home facing their wives. It is hard to imagine how those who always label themselves as successful people, ultimately lose sight of who is their long-term investor in personal life.
Another prime example is that some people treat strangers better than their loved ones. They give very bad attitudes towards their family and relatives. ( Well, as for underlying causes, I guess, face culture and kick cat effect may play a role.)
Not all the people we met in life deserve our equal attention, some of them are even not worth spending a second. So don't waste your time developing any relationship with them, just let them go.
