Sean:
Those are 2 friends of mine. They do tours out on the lake. Kenai Lake. The body of water in most of my photos.

Sophia:
Kenai
Kenai (/ˈkiːnaɪ/, KEY-nigh) (Dena'ina: Shk'ituk't) is a city in Kenai Peninsula Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. The population was 6,942 at the 2000 census and 7,100 as of the 2010 census. (From Wekia)

How long is the ice period of Kenai Lake?

Sean:
The lake could stay frozen until May. The city of Kenai is 50 miles away from where I am. The city of Kenai is 50 miles away from where I am.

Sophia:
Zig-zag is visual.

Sean:
Yes, we also describe it as having two dog legs. In the depths of winter you can drive on the lake and shave 20 minutes off the drive to Seaward, Alaska. Where we sometimes go to shop for groceries.

Sophia:
Having two dog legs is more interesting, haha. Driving on the lake? Cool, that must be a nice experience.

160 meters deep?Well,Does the water level changes a lot annually?

Sean:
But that depth information is not entirely accurate. Some areas are up to 300 metres.

Sophia:
Yeah, got it, 160 meters is a statistical data.

Sophia:
The water of the lake must comes from the melt ice of Alaska mostly, so the water level should not changes a lot annually. And the water quality should be not bad.

Sean:
Yeah. The basin was carved out by glaciers during the last few glaciation periods. The water has a distinctive coloration indicative of a glacier fed watershed.

Sophia:
Just glacier recharge, so the water temperature should be low. Thanks for your explanation, very interesting. Well, actually my major is water resources during college, but I did not do good.

Sean:
The variation of water level is between 10 and 20 metres.
Yes,the average temperature is 37 degrees F.

Sophia:
37 degrees shocks me at first glance for I did not notice the unit. ℃ = 5×(℉- 32)/9
What kinds of plants around the lake? There is much?

Sean:
Very little plant life in the lake. There is something like hydrilla. But most flora is of the algae. I did not expect to survive that misadventure.

2 years ago I fell out of my sailboat in the lake. I had neglected to put my ladder on the cleat so that I was able to climb back in the boat. I swam myself and the sailboat to shore 1.25 miles. I was in the water a little over an hour. I was in mild hypothermia. After I got back to shore I climbed into the boat. Stripped of my wet things and ate a bunch if sugary snacks. After about 30 minutes I stopped shaking and ended up doing a little sailing before my friend came in his boat and towed me back to the dock we shared.

Sophia:
Unbelievable. It's an unforgettable experience, swimming for an hour in the Kenai Lake.

Actually deep in the sea the water temperature is close to 0 ℃,so it's not special that there are a lot algae in Kenai Lake.

Sean:
Not much. The water is opaque to sunlight. You can't see your hand in front of your face when you are under the surface.

Sophia:
Dark blue.
