We come by our principles in different ways. Sometimes we gain them through our own experiences and reflections. Sometimes we accept them from others, like our parents, or we adopt holistic packages of principles, such as those of religions and legal frameworks.

我们以不同的方式得到自己的原则。有时我们通过自身的经验和反馈获得原则，有时我们从其他人哪里得到，或者我们直接接收成套的，比如宗教和法律框架下的原则。

Because  we each have our own goals and our own natures, each of us must choose our  own principles to match them. While it isn’t necessarily a bad thing to use  others’ principles, adopting principles without giving them much thought can  expose you to the risk of acting in ways inconsistent with your goals and  your nature. At the same time, you, like me, probably don’t know everything  you need to know and would be wise to embrace that fact. If you can think for  yourself while being open-minded in a clearheaded way to find out what is  best for you to do, and if you can summon up the courage to do it, you will  make the most of your life. If you can’t do that, you should reflect on why  that is, because that’s most likely your greatest impediment to getting more  of what you want out of life.

因为我们每个人都有自己的目标和天性。我们每个人必须选择属于自己的原则，并匹配他们，当然使用其他人的原则未必是一件坏事。没有经过深思熟虑的采纳原则可能会因为与你的目标和天赋不一致导致风险。同时，你可能像我一样，并不清楚你需要知道哪些事情以及那些是你必须去拥抱的事实。如果你能清空自己并虚心思考，你讲找到最适合你的事情。如果你能聚集所有的勇气，你将成为最好的自己。如果做不到，你需要反思为什么，因为那很可能是你跳出自己既定生活的最大障碍。

That  brings me to my first principle:

•Think for yourself to decide 1) what you want, 2) what is true,

  and 3) what you should do to achieve #1 in light of #2 . . .

principles  will determine how you interact. People who have shared values and principles  get along. People who don’t will suffer through constant misunderstandings  and conflicts. Think about the people you are closest to: Are their values  aligned with yours? Do you even know what their values or principles are? Too  often in relationships, people’s principles aren’t clear. This is especially  problematic in organizations where people need to have shared principles to  be successful. Being crystal clear about my principles is why I labored so  much over every sentence in this book.

原则决定你如何做出反应。率先分享价值观和原则的人将取得优势，没有人愿意接受持续的误解和抵触。想想和你最接近的人，难道不是因为你们的价值观是一致的吗？但是你知道他们的价值观和原则吗？  大多数社交中，人们的原则都是不清晰的。尤其在组织内部需要共享原则以取得成功来说，这样是非常成问题的。这也是我为什么在这本书每句话里都费劲像水晶般透彻阐述我的原则的原因。

The  principles you choose can be anything you want them to be as long as they are  authentic—i.e., as long as they reflect your true character and values. You  will be faced with millions of choices in life, and the way you make them  will reflect the principles you have—so it won’t be long before the people  around you will be able to tell the principles you are really operating by.  The worst thing you can be is a phony, because if you’re a phony you will  lose people’s trust and your own self-respect. So you must be clear about  your principles and then you must “walk the talk.” If inconsistencies seem to  exist, you should explain them. It’s best to do that in writing because by  doing so, you will refine your written principles.

你所选择的原则可以是任何事，只要原则是有效可靠的。也就是只要他们能反映你真实的特质与价值观。生活中你将不得不面对百万计的选择，你的决定取决于你持有的原则-所以不需要很长时间，你周围的人就可以了解你所持的真正原则。最糟糕的事情是你被认为是一个骗子，假如你被认为是一个骗子，那么你将失去人们的信任和自尊。所以你必须清楚你的原则并言行一致。如果言行不一，你需要解释清楚，最好能把他们都写下来并照做，这样你还能提炼你的原则。

While I  will be sharing my own principles, I want to make clear to you that I don’t  expect you to follow them blindly. On the contrary, I want you to question  every word and pick and choose among these principles so you come away with a  mix that suits you.

我非常愿意分享我的原则，但我要明确的告诉各位我不希望大家盲从，相反，我希望大家质疑每一个字，以便于从中拣选适合自己的一套原则。

本章作者雷达利奥介绍了拥有自己的原则的方法和原则，以及拥有自己的原则的重要性，如果没有原则会怎样。

达利奥先生告诉我们可以采用拿来主义，比如从哪些你认为伟大的人身上摘取哪些让他们优秀的原则，也可以从宗教和法律法规里直接拿来主义。当然我们做人做事必须在法律允许的情况下做事，比如我坚持不做非法和违法的事情，这就是我做事的基本原则。同时我做事不违心，比如我不做不孝的事情，不欺压良善，不欺骗，不暴力等等，这些是我做人做事的原则。

达利奥先生想从牛顿、达芬奇等等伟人身上直接拿来主义的原因。比如热情、专注、勤奋等等，我们普通人都可以直接接收，照做就是。

然后作者告诉大家，我们每个人的原则又是不同的，因为每个人的目标和天性不同。在此我理解天性是个人的禀赋和性格，是上天赋予的，是从出生就决定了的，不会轻易改变，基因决定的。既要拿来主义，又要内化为自身所需。

在拥有自己的原则之前请慎重考虑自己的目标和天性，并解答两个问题1）你想成为什么2）你认为什么是真实的？ 也就是你应该正确的做事在做正确的做事的原则下。

如果想好并处理好以上两个问题，那么每个人都能最大化的实现个人价值，成为最好的自己。

拥有原则的人和他们的社交联系和由此带来的行为是可以解释的，有迹可循的，有规则的。有原则的人能更快、更好的融入组织和社会。这里谈到最糟糕的情况就是被人打上骗子的标签，也就是不诚信。非常糟糕，要么是没有原则，要么是你的原则是错的，病态的。所以回到我们刚才说的在正确的做事的原则下做正确的事。一个有原则的人是言行一致的，是始终如一的，是遵循规则和道德标准的，是一个可以被理解和信任的人。那么请我们每个人都做有原则的人吧。中国话墙头草就是没有原则的人的形象描述。
