So he only received some rudimentary education, including how to read and write, in Sunday school organized by a church.
When he grew up as a teenager, he had to work in a local bookbinding shop and served as an apprentice in order that he could make some money by delivering newspapers.
Because of the job involving in binding books, he became an avid reader during his apprenticeship and read as many books as he could find.
He developed a particular interest in studying electricity and even tried to conduct some simple experiments with the guide of the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Attending the lectures by the famous scientist who was a British chemist and inventor marked a turning point for his life, he sent a 300-page note about his research to the scientist so as to apply for a position. The scientist was impressed by his work and enthusiasm, and hired him as an assistant.
This important event allows him to have the opportunity for pursuing his career in chemistry and science.
Afterward, his experiments discovered electromagnetic induction, which have had the most profound influence on modern electromagnetic technology used today.
The electric motor is also his breakthrough invention in electricity.
“Nothing is too wonderful to be true if it be consistent with the laws of nature,” he said.
