How do you get your child to love English?

Are you having troubles with getting your child to speak and read in English?  Is your solution to this problem sending him to an English class?  Well, this shouldn't be your only solution and I'm going to share with you in a series of write-ups on how you can get your child to love English without sending him to a class. I'm going to make it real simple.

Before you decide whether or not to read on, here's a little introduction about me. I am Bridget, a professional educator, a third generation Singaporean (born and bred in Singapore). I am a principal of an International preschool and have worked with more than 500 children over the past 6 years. I have a flair for languages and a love for passing on the love for languages to the younger generation.

Glad that you have decided to read on! Getting your child to love a language is more than getting him to master the techniques of a language. Once he loves the language, everything else will fall into place.

The first thing you must do is to display a library of wonderful children's books at home. Do you know what the next thing should be? You are right, read them! By that, I meant you reading it to him.

My suggestion would be to start with the Eric Carle collection. Does 很饿很饿的毛毛虫 sound familiar to you? If it does, brilliant! It was written by Eric Carle. I have been to his museum in Boston, it was amazing! Now search for the rest of his books, the English version, of course!  If you need help with voice recording the stories, email me at bridget.ckang@gmail.com. The first recording will be absolutely free!

Stay tuned for more!
