Domaine FL passionately believes that the vineyards are the cornerstones to any great wine. At the onset, each appellation was debated and ultimately mapped out based on qualities of soil, climate, the interplay of topography and wind or other elements that make each area unique. And since Domaine FL farms organically, they try to bring about the best expression of each appellation in the wines. Savennières Roche aux Moines Savennières- Roche aux Moines, a sub appellation of Savennières aop, is one of the finest cru of Anjou. Named for the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Nicolas d'Angers who first planted the vines in 1130, this celebrated aop encompasses less than 60 planted acres on the right bank of the Loire. Stony well-drained schist soilsalong with a south-southwest exposureprovide ideal conditions for producing exquisite Chenin Blanc. The eight winegrowers of Savennières- Roche aux Moines adhere to incredibly meticulous farming and winemaking standards that include: organic farming; sole planting of Chenin Blanc; low yields to ensure flavor concentration; hand harvesting over multiple passes; no chaptalization whatsoever; aging of at least 10 months; and estate bottling. By taking such extraordinary measures to ensure quality, the winemakers from this region are crafting the wines from Roche aux Moines like one would a ''grand cru''. The resulting wines possess a profound eloquence and can age for decades, revealing even greater nuance, complexity, and minerality over time. > Roche aux Moines Savennières The Savennières aop is situated just south of Angers, the historical capital of Anjou. Its 370-planted acres stretch across southern-exposed slopes on the right bank of the Loire River. Savennières shallow soils are comprised of well-drained sandstone schist, volcanic rock (rhyolite) and aeolain sand, which allow for excellent drainage, slight cluster dehydration and resulting concentrated fruit flavors in the trademark Chenin Blanc. This soil quality combined with the mesoclimatic influence of the Loire create a dry, full-bodied Chenin Blanc with a succulent mouthfeel, intense aromas and remarkable ageability. Chenin Blanc from this area does not undergo the typical secondary malolactic fermentation to maintain the wines freshness and bouquet. > Chamboureau Anjou (Blanc et Rouge) Anjou, one of the widest appellations of the Loire Valley, produces white, rosé and red wines. Anjou vineyards are planted mainly on the left bank of the Loire south of Angers in white limestone chalk soils. These differ from the gravel soils of Savennières and Roche aux Moines and create a distinct underpinning of minerality that is present in the region. While winemakers in this region are allowed to blend different grapes, Domaine FL only use Chenin Blanc for its white wine and Cabernet Franc, the emblematic red grape of the region, for its Anjou rouge. Anjou Blanc wines are dry and buoyant with delicate notes of stone fruit, mineral, and citrus. Anjou Blanc wines are characteristically dry with a buoyant/freshness while Anjou Rouge wines are known to exude great finesse, a mineral underscore, and structured with a framing of fine-grained tannins. > Les Bergères > Le Cochet Coteaux du Layon The Coteaux du Layon aop is located on the Layon River, a tributary of the Loire. Its well-ventilated south-facing hillsides, and temperate oceanic climate provide an ideal environment for growing late-harvest Chenin Blanc. This sweet, succulent wine, originating in the 16th Century, is made from noble rot-affected grapes that are hand harvested cluster by cluster over several passes. Coteaux du Layon offers rich aromas of honeyed fig and acacia and boasts excellent aging potential. > Les 4 villages Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru, aop The Quarts de Chaume aop is a Grand Cru sub-appellation of 123 acres within the Coteaux du Layon aop. Historically, ''Quarts de Chaume'' signified the finest quarter of fruit harvested in the Chaume appellation and given to the Lord who owned the land for property tax payments. This delectable late harvest wine is made from very low-yield noble rot-affected Chenin Blanc grapes, which are hand-harvested in successive passes. Grapes affected with noble rot are not guaranteed each year so these wines are only produced in ideal years. And, when conditions to promote botrytis do exist for a harvest, the yields are very small. Quarts de Chaume has incredible aging potential, some vintages showing beautifully after a half century of cellaring. The finished wine displays a striking balance between acidity and sweetness. > Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru
