TED Talk     Never, ever give up 永不放弃    Speaker: Diana Nyad     第二课

And we've been on a journey.    我们踏上了一个旅途。

And the debate has raged, hasn't it, since the Greeks, of isn't it what it's all about?   对此人们一直有激烈的争论，自希腊人以来难道不都是关于旅途吗？

Isn't life about the journey, not really the destination?  【跟读】  难道生活不就是关于旅途，而不是目的地么？

And here we've been on this journey, and the truth is, it's been thrilling.    而我们一直都在这个旅途中，事实是，这一路刺激极了。

We haven't reached that other shore, and still our sense of pride and commitment, unwavering commitment. 我们还没到达彼岸，然而，我们有强烈的自豪感和决心，坚定不移的决心。

When I turned 60, the dream was still alive from having tried this in my 20s, and dreamed it and imagined it.   我60岁的时候，那个梦还活着，从20多岁时候的尝试，到后来一直梦想着，想象着。

The most famous body of water on the Earth today, I imagine, Cuba to Florida. 我想，如今地球上最出名的水域就是古巴到佛罗里达一带。

And it was deep. It was deep in my soul.    它很深，深到我的灵魂深处。

And when I turned 60, it wasn't so much about the athletic accomplishment, it wasn't the ego of 'I want to be the first.'    我60岁的时候，它不再是关于那些竞技成就，不是关于'我想要第一名'的自我。

That's always there and it's undeniable.    无可否认地，那个自我一直都在。

Let's face it, we're all on a one-way street, aren't we, and what are we going to do? 我们承认吧。我们都在单行道上，不是吗？那我们应该怎么做呢？

What are we going to do as we go forward to have no regrets looking back? 我们应该做些什么才能在前进的路上回头看时没有遗憾？

And all this past year in training, Ihad that Teddy Roosevelt quote to paraphrase it, floating around in my brain, and it says,

“You go ahead, you go ahead and sit back in yourcomfortable chair and you be the critic, you be the observer, while the braveone gets in the ring and engages

”你尽管，你尽管坐在你那舒服的椅子上，你做个评论家，你做个观察员，同时那个勇敢的人走上拳击台开始比赛，

and gets bloody and gets dirty and failsover and over and over again, but yet isn't afraid and isn't timid and liveslife in a bold way.”    血流了下来，有点脏，他倒了下去，一次又一次，但是他不害怕不胆怯，用一种勇敢的方式去生活。”

And so of course I want to make it across.     所以当然我想要跨越这一湾水。

It is the goal, and I should be so shallow to say that this year, the destination was even sweeter than the journey.   这是目标，我也坦率地跟大家说今年，目的地尝到的滋味比旅途更甜。

But the journey itself was worthwhile taking.  但旅途本身是值得的。

And at this point, by this summer,everybody —— scientists, sports scientists, endurance experts, neurologists, my own team, Bonnie ——said it's impossible.     这个时候，今年夏天，每个人——科学家、运动科学家、耐力专家、神经专家，我自己的团队，邦妮——都说这是不可能的。

It just simply can't be done, and Bonnie said to me, "But if you're going to take the journey, I'm going to see you through to the end of it,  so I'll be there."     这是肯定做不到的。这时邦妮对我说：“但是如果你真的要踏上这个旅途，我会从头到尾看着你，所以我会在的。”

And now we're there.    而我们就去了。

And as we're looking out, kind of asurreal moment before the first stroke, standing on the rocks at Marina Hemingway, the Cuban flag is flying above, 启程之前，我们一眼望去，感觉一切都是那么地不真实，在划出去的前一刻我们站在海明威码头的岩石上，古巴旗帜在上空飘扬，

all my team's out in their boats, handsup in the air, "We're here, we're here for you."     我的团队在他们的船上，手高高举起并说着：“我们在这里。我们会为你加油。”

Bonnie and I look at each other, and wesay, this year, the mantra is —— and I've been using it in training —— find away.    邦妮和我相互对望了一眼，我们说：今年，我们的口头禅是—— 我在训练的时候也一直用它—— 找到出路。

You have a dream and you have obstacles in front of you, as we all do. 【跟读】你有一个梦想，你的前方有障碍，我们都一样。

【跟读】 Life is full of obstacles and the only way to realize your dream is to overcome them.

None of us ever get through this life without heartache, without turmoil, and if you believe and you have faith and you can get knocked down and get back up again    没有一个人可以不经历任何心痛、任何动荡地走完人生，如果你相信，如果你有任何信仰，你可以被打倒再重新站起来，

and you believe in perseverance as agreat human quality, you find your way, and Bonnie grabbed my shoulders, andshe said, "Let's find our way to Florida."   你相信毅力是人类最伟大的优点，你会找到你的出路。邦妮抓住我的肩膀，她说：“让我们找到去佛罗里达的路吧。”     【词义】 If someone is perseverant, they will persist through difficulty.

And we started, and for the next 53hours, it was an intense, unforgettable life experience.   接着我们出发了，接下来的53个小时给我们带来了刺激的、令人难忘的人生经历。

The highs were high, the awe, I'm not areligious person, but I'll tell you, to be in the azure blue of the Gulf Streamas if, as you're breathing,     高处很高，还有敬畏，我不是一个信教的人，但是我要告诉你的是，身处在墨西哥湾流的湛蓝之中，你一边呼吸，

you're looking down miles and miles andmiles, to feel the majesty of this blue planet we live on, it's awe-inspiring.    一边看着前方无尽的一片，感受到我们生活在的这个蓝色星球的雄伟，真的让人叹为观止。

I have a playlist of about 85 songs, andespecially in the middle of the night, and that night, because we use no lights-- lights attract jellyfish, lights attract sharks,    我有一个大概85首歌的播放列表，特别是在半夜的时候，那个晚上，因为我们没有灯光—— 灯光会引来水母、鲨鱼，

lights attract baitfish that attractsharks, so we go in the pitch black of the night.     灯光会引来那些鲨鱼喜欢的饵料鱼，所以我们就在一片漆黑的黑夜中行进。

You've never seen black this black.     你从来没有见过这种黑暗。

You can't see the front of your hand, and the people on the boat, Bonnie and my team on the boat, they just hear the slapping of the arms,     你看不见自己眼前的手，和船上的人，邦妮的我的团队，他们透过听到手臂拍打的声音，

and they know where I am, becausethere's no visual at all.    才知道我在哪里，因为用肉眼是看不见的。
