James Jean

James Jean (born in 1979) is a Taiwanese American visual artist primarily engaged in painting and sketching. He lives and works in Los Angeles. James Jean combines different visual codes from the past and present, East and West. This Taiwanese American artist has received widespread attention in the fields of art and popular culture, with high-profile collaborations from Prada to Apple, a huge digital follower, and a proxy for contemporary art idol Takashi Murakami.

2001年，詹姆斯·简从纽约视觉学院(School of Visual Arts)毕业，取得学士学位。同年9月，美国发生了震惊世界的911事件。毕业后四处碰壁的詹姆斯·简因此离开了处于混乱中的纽约，前往奥地利继续进行绘画。他把在公园和咖啡馆里完成的速写本作品分享到自己的博客，慢慢吸引了很多人的关注。当詹姆斯·简回到纽约时，他收到了来自美国两大漫画巨头之一的DC漫画公司的封面绘制邀请，正式开启了他的艺术生涯的成名之路。
In 2001, James Jane graduated with a bachelor's degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York.
In September of the same year, the 9/11 attacks that shocked the world occurred in the United States. After graduation, James Jane, who faced various obstacles, left chaotic New York and went to Austria to continue painting.
He shared his sketchbook works completed in parks and cafes on his blog, gradually attracting a lot of attention.
When James Jane returned to New York, he received an invitation to draw a cover from DC Comics, one of the two major comic giants in the United States, officially marking the beginning of his artistic career.

In 2008, Jean retired from an illustration project to focus on painting. Jean combines abstract images with loose gesture markers to create layered compositions that evoke individual or collective experiences. His works are dreamy and sometimes disorienting, expressing narratives that are not limited by time or space, and drawing on artistic predecessors from Baroque painting traditions to Japanese woodblock and Chinese silk scroll paintings.
In the world of art, the magic of the East continues its miraculous continuation. James Jane took inspiration from Eastern mythology and incorporated it into his artistic creations, creating stunning works.
By continuing to write elements of Eastern mythology, James Jane broke traditional boundaries and opened up new artistic fields. He uses delicate brushstrokes to depict mysterious scenes and legendary figures in mythology, showcasing the magical beauty of the East to the fullest.
In his works, we can feel the unique charm of Eastern culture.
