The ukulele is a Hawaiian instrument with a lovely sound. Its small size gives players of all ages the chance to master it. I have learned it for two years and I have three rules to share.
RULE 1 Understanding the basics
Learn a bit about the basics of playing the ukulele, and eventually, you will be a great ukulele player.
At the very beginning, you should really interested in learning it and buy you a ukulele. There are four different styles of ukuleles. The longer the ukulele is, the more frets it has. As a beginner, you will most likely want to choose a cheaper option rather than investing in an expensive ukulele. What I hold now is 23’’, and I recommend this to girls.
Before you begin playing it, make sure you understand the basic layout of the instrument. There are four strings on a ukulele. The lowest string is known as the 1st string, moving upwards to the highest string which is the 4th string.
Before you start playing, it is important that you tune your instrument. This will give the strings the correct sound.
If you don’t hold your ukulele the right way when you are playing it, you won’t sound as good, you will be uncomfortable.
RULE 2Learn some basic chords.
For example, to play a C Major chord, place your ring finger on the 4th string on the third fret.
There are lots of chords. But don’t be scared, all you need to learn are those on the right side of the slide. Still a lot to learn, then maybe all you need to learn are these four chords. With them, you can play lots of songs. Now, it seems a lot easier.
RULE 3 Practicing and teaching
Once you’ve learned some basic chords, putting them together may seem simple but requires a little timing. In order for your music to sound melodic, it is important that you have good rhythm.
Keeping a rhythm will be difficult at first while you learn how to adjust your left hand quickly between notes and chords. Try counting in fours while you are playing.
Don’t try to play super fast at first, as you will be likely to make more mistakes. Start out with a slow, steady rhythm and then work your way towards a more fast-pace beat.
Once you have mastered all the basic chords, you can play nearly any beginner’s songs.
If you want to learn some of your favorite songs, search online for the song’s ukulele tabs. Tabs are like the music for the ukulele, telling you the differing chords and fingering positions that are required.
The most important thing you can do to improve your overall playing ability is to practice on a regular basis. You don’t have to have an inborn talent for music to become a fantastic ukelele player, but rather just need persistence and diligence. Putting at least 20-30 minutes of practice a day will help you to become the master instrumentalist you always wanted to be!
During the process of learning ukulele, I understood three rules that
apply equally to other aspects of life. If you want to learn a new thing, then
you should have enough interest to learn it, then learn the basic knowledge of
it, and keep practicing and teach others. Teaching someone else is the best way
to learn.
