Dear Toastermasters and welcome guests. I am Wade. W-a-d-e—Wade.
Do you know why my English name is Wade? If you have heard my CC1 speech, your answer can be "yes". My favorite sport is basketball. The basketball player I like best is Wade in NBA. So I gave myself the same English name” Wade”.
I was born in a small village in Linyi, Shandong province. I had been leading a life in Shandong province for 24 years. Until the September in 2016, I was admitted in Dalian University of Technology as a postgraduate. Now I am a sophomore postgraduate and my major is structural engineering.
In 1999, it was the time for me to attend primary school. However, there were too many students that year. Only those people born before September in 1992 can be enrolled. As for me, I was born in October. I had to go to kindergarten for another year. Because I had stayed in kindergarten for two years, the teacher appointed me as a monitor. I was older than other classmates. My old friends had gone to primary school. So I made a decision that I would do better than others.
Where there is a will, there is a way. Three years' study in kindergarten had laid a solid foundation for me. When I attended primary school, I was always the top two in the class. Gradually, I gained the title of "next-door's kid ". My parents were proud of me. I had been trying to make myself better.
I have an excellent uncle. He was admitted into Ocean University of China more than twenty years ago. He is now a vice president of a company in Qingdao. Every time he returned hometown, he drove his own car by himself. I was always compared to him by others. They said, "The child did a good job in school like his uncle." I don't want to hear that. My uncle was my role model. I don’t like this comparison. I want to make me better. I will be more successful than my uncle someday.
In 2016, I graduated from Qingdao University of Technology. My school is neither 985 or 211 university. When I was a junior student, I planned to take part in the postgraduate entrance exams. I want to become a student in a 985 university. Although some classmates around me thought I couldn't make it. I spared no effort to make me better. I want to prove myself. Finally, I made it.
Whether it is the primary school, high school or university, I try my best to be the top two in the class. Most of the time, I did it.
No pains, no gains. I want to make me better. Not because I am older than my classmates and I have an excellent uncle, the most important reason is that I want to make myself better from the bottom of my heart.
I do not seek a glorious life. I only strive to do what I can, to live the most wonderful life, and to be a better man
