For my past years, movies played an entertaining role in my life, driving me to fiction, action and love movies. All I expect was the excitement brought by handsome heroes, spectacular scenes and intricate plots. Yet recently I have found another feature of exquisite movies, or more broadly speaking, just like the novel and opera, any artistic work or literature, which gives me a totally different view of the studio production. This makes an impression to me that my past simple demand on an around two-hour story just a childish joy. Is the shift of my perspective a signal of spiritual growth? Maybe. And I am actually welcoming a developing soul walking to a better and maturer version.
A fictional story in a movie has its own background and individual characters. Instead of just a visible plot only to intrigue audiences, I would rather view a movie in a different angle as a thought experiment of the author or director. You may have heard of thought experiments of scientists, such as theErwin Schrödinger’s Cat,which does not exist in reality.The story and figure in a movie do not exist either if it is not a documentary or biography, but indeed has a whole structure. That is the beautiful part because you can enter into a world totally different from yours where as a bystander, you get an understanding of the author`s configuration and the events happened wherein. Isn`t like opening a parallel world, sometimes really fantastic, in your own one-line life? By living there and experiencing what the figures experience, you time is literally thickened.
For example, in a movie where a best seller`s author creates a heroine who miraculously appears in his real life, quite shocking and then delightfully amazing. However, the author has the supreme power of rewriting her and whenever she rejects to act in his will, the temptation is strong. He does that for several times. Every time the beautiful girlfriend turns to be almost another one, fitting his appetite just for a while before another dissatisfaction emerges. Finally he is tired of this manipulation game and just want the real one back.
How is the story in Ruby Sparks sounds to you? What if you are the author and acquire this magic? What will you do to your lovely girlfriend? You have already had the examples in the movie and you can think further. Have you ever tried to change your girlfriend/boyfriend in some way or desperately eager for a perfect fit whenever you are bothered by the other one`s behaviors and words. Have you ever lost in your imagination and never truly accept your lover as she/he is?
I have got much more than enjoyment from a funny and novel story after I watched this movie in this way. It triggered out my thoughts on love and relationship. And believe me, I will not think out this plot on my own and get any further from that point in the fact of my limited creativity. The credits are owing to the creator of this movie who helps me unlock the possible door.
