今天“高斋CATTI”上给大家发一段汉译英批改，原文取自2020年政府工作报告。

原文：这次新冠肺炎疫情，是新中国成立以来遭遇的传播速度最快、感染范围最广、防控难度最大的公共卫生事件。经过全国上下和广大人民群众艰苦卓绝努力并付出牺牲，疫情防控取得重大战略成果。当前，疫情尚未结束，发展任务异常艰巨。要努力把疫情造成的损失降到最低，努力完成今年经济社会发展目标任务。
学生译文：①The novel coronavirus pneumonia is a ②public health event that ③has the fastest speed of transmission, caused the most extensive infection and is the most difficult to contain in the country since the founding of ④the New China. ⑤Epidemic prevention and control have ⑥made significant strategy achievement through the hard work and ⑦making sacrifice of the whole country and ⑧the broad masses. At present, the epidemic ⑨is not over and the tasks of promoting development is arduous. 翻译批改：
①“新冠肺炎疫情”不能翻译为The novel coronavirus pneumonia，这个指“新冠肺炎”，“新冠肺炎疫情”一般是The covid-19 epidemic或者The covid-19 outbreak。
② “公共卫生事件”public health emergency是固定表达，不能说public health event。如CATTI冲刺班19年6月CATTI三笔英译汉真题中有这句：
And of course, we continue to face the ever-present threat of outbreaks and other health emergencies.
③ “传播速度最快”不能直译为has the fastest speed of transmission，病毒传播用spread，最简洁的是翻译为形容词词组the fastest spreading，如果翻译为定语从句，可以是that has spread fastest。
④ “新中国”在现在的报告中用的都是the People’s Republic of China，以前文章中会用New China，但是现在不用了。
⑤ made major strategic achievements的主语是人，不是epidemic prevention and control；在报告中，可以用we作主语，翻译为we have made major strategic achievements in epidemic prevention and control.
⑥“取得重大战略成果”可以是made major strategic achievements in，注意是strategic achievements。Achievements是可数名词，这里是复数，强调各种成果。
⑦ “付出牺牲”不能直译为making sacrifice，through/with之后加名词或者动名词，但是前面是the hard work名词结构，为了结构统一，“付出牺牲”直接翻译为名词sacrifice就可以；
因为work之前有一个形容词hard，所以sacrifice前面可以加个enormous。当然，不加也可以的。
⑧ “全国上下和广大人民群众”不能翻译为the whole country and the broad masses，含义重复了，全国上下已经包含了“广大人民群众”，直接是the whole country或者our entire nation。
也可以说our people。
⑨“尚未结束”说is not over，口语化了，报告中还是不这样说吧。
⑩ minimize the loss of the epidemic不对，the loss of sth表示损失、失去什么，如the loss of competitiveness失去竞争力。
“把疫情造成的损失降到最低”应该是minimize the losses caused by the virus或者minimize the losses resulting from the virus，注意是losses。
