II. Summary
Writing has an extra touch of gracefulness, or humanity, or humor. Writers should use this character and transfer those to readers. So write something we really enjoy, try to give everyone a good time. However, writing is a difficult task. When we fear of writing, we should write subjects we interested and care about. There are no party line of which is right or wrong. Be confidence, trust yourself and express your own style.
III. Thoughts
第二十一章的标题“Enjoyment,Fear and Confidence” 最能说明全书中的personality与humanity的观点。首先,写作是要写能够让自己愉悦的东西。而早在前几章中,Zinsser已经说过,作者不需要取悦任何人,二十需要遵从自己的内心,唯一需要取悦的人正是自己。可见,本书中尽管谈论的范围是偏向实用的nonfiction,但Zinsser本人是反对为写作而写作的,作者要有对写作的热爱,并且把写作当中的愉悦传递给读者。
其次,写作并非是一件简单的事,每个人都会遇到自己不擅长的领域,并且由此对写作产生畏惧之心。对此,Zinsser的解决方法是依照自己的兴趣,写自己真正感兴趣、真正关心的东西。人无完人,写作也并非需要面面俱到。这就延伸出了自信的问题,毋庸置疑,人们在自己熟悉的领域是充满自信的,我们需要听从自己的内心,而并非外界的所谓“标准”。
