Story (5min)

I joined Toastmasters to conquer the stage fright. Unfortunately, after I joined the club for only 2 months we had to start the online meeting because of a pandemic.

However, this experience had some unexpected impact on my career path. I succeeded in my interview as an instructor because the interviewer told me I was the only person who had interaction with the students online.

Yes, if I can be the speaker in the meeting room. Why could I become a speaker in the classroom?

Then I back to Kunming and joined another club.

I was wondering if I got the chance to play the game twice, I definitely play it harder. How about public speaking skills and leadership?  The most frequent keywords mentioned in Toastmasters.

So I set three missions for my new game.

1. Being a meeting role at least once a week. Piece of cake  ticked

2. Joining the speech contest and winning the Championship. 2nd prize was not bad ticked

3. Leading our club to be the best club in Kunming. And we made it as a team.

Your energy flows where your attention goes. It always be some gripping thing in Toastmasters.

After all the Toastmasters mission has been cleaned. I was overconfident and dreaming of something bigger. If I could be a speaker in a classroom using Chinese. Why not be the one who uses English?

This idea has haunted my head for several months and I from the university after I joined the club for half a year. The university was looking for a teacher to give lectures to overseas students.

Major: Business(easy); Course: Statistics (normal); Language: English(hard but yes)!I prepared the interview with 200% energy, wrote a script, rehearsed it over and over again, and asked the help from my club members. And take a deep breath before the interview.

Recently,  I got a call from my first club

Hi, Nami. how's it going? I have good news to share with you. I have got an offer for my dream company and I found a new club here. A new journey just started. How about you?

Yeah, me too. A new journey just started, but I am not ready for it. I am struggling for my PhD research and I feel burnout.

You know, you never need to be ready.  People in Toastmasters do things before they’re ready. We do things before we know we can do it. We lead by doing.
