神学观点很重要的来自当时的宗教改革，他很坚定的站在了皇室这边。宗教多元化会给大家带来互相的不信任，英国是一个远离宗教狂热的国家，那时英国作了很多清教的改革，当时的清教徒和皇室也有很大的斗争，一开始皇室是利用清教徒对抗天主教，但是清教徒比天主教还要激进，最后清教徒特别狂热的去了两个地方--荷兰和美国。
当时的清教徒到了美国没东西吃，当地的印第安人给了没他们食物，所以有感恩节一说。
