English Diary 10.28

Weather: [Optional, e.g., Sunny / Cloudy]

Today, I want to write down what I did and thought—just like a casual chat with myself.

I felt tired this morning, even though I didn’t wake up particularly early. When I opened my eyes, it was already 7 o’clock. I got up in a hurry, put on my sportswear, and went out for a run. This morning, I ran 7 kilometers in 45 minutes. Compared to before, my pace was slower, but the distance was longer—so that’s a small win! Tomorrow, I plan to keep running, but I’ll try to go faster than today.

After the run, I went back home, took a shower, cooked breakfast, and ate it. Then I drove to work and started my study for the day. I watched some video lectures, but halfway through, my cousin sent me a WeChat message. I checked it and ended up chatting with her for a while. We talked about her kids’ studies: her elder son is in high school now, and next year he’ll take the important senior high school entrance exam. Her son is good at science, so I think he’ll have no problem getting into his dream school. I told her I have some study tips to share with him, and I suggested she take her son to the library on weekends—since many high school students study there on weekends, it’s a great environment for focusing. Later, when I got back to my lessons, I realized I’d wasted a lot of time chatting. That’s a bit of a pity; I should manage my time better next time.

At noon, I went home to cook lunch. After eating, I watched football videos for an hour. Then, until 9 PM, I went back to work and reviewed my old courses. I was surprised to find that I’d forgotten a lot of content—I had to force myself to memorize those things again. Right after I finished reviewing, my customer called; she needed my help with arranging courses because I’d helped them get a license before. Everything went smoothly with that.

At 5 o’clock, I checked the time and realized it was time to pick my son up from his old school. On the way back, I bought some ready-cooked food for dinner. My wife told me this morning that she’d have dinner with her colleagues tonight—her former manager just resigned, so everyone was getting together for a meal. She also mentioned that she might quit her current job because her bosses are too strict, and she can’t stand the pressure anymore. I told her it was okay, but deep down, I was worried: we’re already in debt, and losing her income would make things harder. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how to earn more money to pay off our debts. Every time I think about this, I feel tired and upset. I only have one full-time job, and my salary is the same every month—no raises, no extra income. I want to do something else to make more money, but I have no idea what to do. I’m really confused.

By the way, my colleague Peter (the salesman) told me something useful today: when introducing our products to customers, we should only talk about the good points and never mention the bad ones. He said that’s part of being a salesperson. I get it, and I’ll remember to tell customers that our controllers are much better than others’ from now on.

Another thing: there are only 5 days left until my exam—I need to hurry up and prepare! Also, my elder son’s school sent a notice: his teacher invited all parents to a meeting tomorrow afternoon, from 2 PM to 4 PM. The teacher will talk about how the kids are progressing at school. I hope my son has made good progress. I know I need to be more patient with him—even though he still makes a lot of mistakes and has many questions, I have to believe he’ll get better and better. I shouldn’t nag him too much, because he already doesn’t like listening to me. Maybe I’ve been too harsh with him before; I need to change that.

I also miss my younger son. I plan to pick him up and bring him to live with us after I finish my exam. I want to take care of him myself, and I hope he’ll do better than his brother in school.

Today’s diary is getting long—I’ve been writing (and talking, when I first thought about this) for 12 minutes already! It’s time to stop. Even though I didn’t have a specific “topic” for today’s English practice, I can feel I’m making big progress by speaking or writing in English every day. I hope that in three months, I’ll be able to speak English fluently and comfortably.

Come on! I’m the best, and I’ll keep getting better. See you tomorrow. Bye!
