Women and Corporate (3) Why Just Women?
Recently a #Dutch colleague of mine told me how uncomfortable he felt when standing next to a bunch of tall Dutch men, and empathized with me for my "position" in our Dutch company, given that I am, well, very short!
As to this Dutch colleague, he is 183cm (6 ft) tall, just the Dutch average.
What do #women of all races and men of color have in common? On average both are shorter than Caucasian men.
Are taller people more successful than their shorter counterparts, from U.S. Presidents to corporate executives? Are Caucasian men more successful than men of color, and men more successful than women, on average everywhere?
The issues of #gender and #race seem so intertwined!
But women make 50% of the world's population. And gender inequality is universal among all races.
If success is getting what we want, women are definitely not yet successful in the #corporate world. We are not getting what we want in the same ratio as men. The under-representation in the board room is just one example.
Is it because women don't want those high paying jobs? Or because the decision makers (likely, tall men) are looking at women only from their level? And literally so.
