1、He also told me to pack them flat in the box, not on their side, again because they can bend, and if you leave them like that for say, a year, it's quite hard to get them back to their normal shape.(C19 Test4 Part3第8句)
把书平放在箱子里,怎么说,就是pack them flat。书侧放怎么说,Put them on their side。今天这一句话,就学会了我们平常放书在书架上的两种方式。
2、Well, it's pretty clear that ruins them, but a lot of people just can't be bothered to protect their books.(C19 Test4 Part3第9句)
昨天的跟读中,学到了一个形容书本被损坏的词是spoil,今天又有一个同义词ruin。不过跟读今天这句,学习到一个非常有用的表达是can't be bothered to do sth,懒得去做什么事或者说不愿意为某事操心。
3、Yeah, that's why old books go yellow.(C19 Test4 Part3第9句)
想要表达什么东西变化了,在英语当中不一定需要用become,很多时候一个简单的go就可以,比如这句当中,书本变黄了,就直接可以说go yellow.
4、I should dump them really if they're going to deteriorate further, but I'd feel bad.(C19 Test4 Part3第14句)
以前我基本只会把dump当作名词用,表示垃圾,废物等,今天跟读这句,发现dump其实是可以做及物动词,直接表示倾倒、抛弃等意思。
另外就是这句当中又出现了一个表示损坏的同义词,就是deteriorate,也就是说,在这两天跟读这篇文章10来句话当中,老外形容书本损坏,已经用到了三个不同的动词,spoil,ruin和deteriorate。
5、You know, maybe it's because I was taught to treasure books... but I hate seeing students force open the pages of paperbacks.(C19 Test4 Part3第19句)
爱护书籍,珍惜书籍怎么说,就是这句话中的treasure books。
不过跟读这句话,让我学到的更重要的一个知识点是force open动词+形容词竟然可以连在一起,组成动词短语,这个颠覆了我对以前英语语法的认知。我咨询了一下deepseek,它给了我很多类似的例子,除了force open,还有force shut,break open, push open, tear open, cut open, hammer flat, paint white...

跟读这句话,我学到了两种书的包装方式,一个是平装书paperbacks,另一个是精装书hardbacks。
