《Jingle all the way 》written by Tom Shay- Zapien
I read this book for my 9-year-old daughter, Libby. For coincidence, she has a stuffed dog which looks like Jingle in the story.
At the beginning, I chose three picture books for her, she liked Jingle very much, so she listened carefully.
This is a story about Jingle the husky pup. And jingle was a good dog. He never made a mess. He never chewed holes in things. He never (not even once) kept people awake at night with his barking. And he always-Ok, almost always did what he was told.
“Oh, no! Jingle was lost!” Said Libby sadly.
One day, Jingle was resting beside the front steps of a school. Suddenly, the school bell began clanging out loud. And the children who were inside ran outside. That made Jingle very happy.
Kevin patted his belly. Sarah scratched his ears. Jennifer said, “ Jingle, you’re a good dog!”they play together, they loved to sing together.
“ do you like Jingle?” I asked.
“ yes, I like it.” Said Libby kissing her dog.
The story went on. Jingle waited for the school bell every day. One day, He waited all night and all day, but it didn’t ring. Jingle decided to look for his friends. He searched everywhere, but the kids were nowhere to be found. The very thought of finding his friends made Jingle want to sing. Finally, poor Jingle was tried from all his searching, so he made his way behind the toy store and plopped into the first soft place he found and fell fast asleep.
I could see tears in Libby’s eyes. And she held her stuffed dog tightly.
When I turned to this page, Libby let out a small sign of relief. “ yeah, Santa is going to send he to one of the kids!” She called out in Chinese. She was right! Jingle saw Andrew, one of his friends school. Andrew was happy to see jingle as well.
Jingle and Andrew became the best friends in the world!
After reading the story. Libby asked me to have a pet puppy, her request put me in a quandary. “ yes, dear, we will have one when we get ready.” I kissed her on her forehead. She felt a little bit disappointed, and held her stuffed dog tightly. And I told her the reason why in Chinese, because a pet need to be treated as a family, just like Jingle in the story, when he got lost, you will feel sad. So we should spend much time to take care of him. We are all too busy to keep a pet! One day when we are ready for a pet, we will have one!
