原文题目：Climate Change Threatens the World's Food Supply, United Nations Warns

本文基于联合国最新的一个报告report，该报告由来自52个国家的100多个专家experts一起准备并于周四在日内瓦Geneva发布。【在此插一句，笔者即将于明年初去日内瓦某所高等院校学习，因此看到日内瓦感到非常亲切，到时或许可以更新在日内瓦以及在各种国际组织的见闻。】
首先指出这一问题的现状：
约五亿half-billion的人口已经生活在沙漠地区places turning desert，土壤soil正以超过其形成form的十倍到百倍的速度流失。气候变化将使得这一情形加剧。
除此之外，气候变化还会导致更多极端天气，如洪水floods，干旱drought，暴风雨storms等等。目前全球有约10%的人口营养不良undernourished。
一些报告作者在采访中指出：食物短缺food shortage会导致边境迁徙cross-border migration。最可怕的是food crisis可能会一下子好几个州continents一起发生。
二氧化氮会减少食物营养品质。higher concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere-a greenhouse gas put there mainly by the burning of fossil fuels-will also reduce food's nutritional quality
温度提高即全球变暖会减少粮食产量并伤害牲畜。cut crop yields and harm livestock. 这会进一步导致食品价格上涨。即便全球变暖会提升某些产品产量，boost food production 但是综合而言but on the whole，一定是弊大于利。(由于decreased yields and lost land from erosion, desertification and rising seas)

接着报告给出了相关建议：
报告给出了解决办法offer a measure of hope, laying out pathways to addressing the looming（逼近的）food crisis。尽管他们还需要重新评估土地利用revaluation of land use；国际农业agriculture worldwide和消费者行为consumer behavior。
建议proposals包括：
提升土地生产increase the productivity of land, 比如土地管理，作物多样化等better soil management; crop diversification
减少贸易壁垒fewer restrictions on trade
减少浪费食物wasting less food, 世界上至少四分之一的食物是浪费的at least one-quarter of all food worldwide is wasted
少吃牛肉等其他肉类persuading more people to shift their diets away from cattle and other types of meat.
这些solutions需要attention，financial support，enabling environments。
