I don’t agree that universities shouldaccept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject, because it cannot be reached in reality.

大学的每个专业该男生女生各收一半吗？我觉得不该，因为这就不现实。

But universities should take actions togive equal rights for both men and women, especially in typical majors which have a big percentage difference in two genders.

不过大学应该采取一些措施保证男士与女士的平等，特别是在一些男女比例悬殊的专业。

First, let’s talk about the reasons. Different subject has different characters. In traditional ideas, some majors are not suitable for men or women.

The majors that don’t suitable for women:civil engineering, architecture, mechanism, vehicle engineering and so on. The reason is about tough working conditions, hard labor and working overtime. They are all bad for skins and make women look old. Also the working atmosphere is full of men, so it is not convenient for women.

The majors that don’t suitable for men:nursing, accounting, ancient Chinese and so on. These majors are full of trifles which cannot show masculinity and have bad payment. Besides, working atmosphere is full of women, so it is not convenient for men.

So admitting the difference is right. But if he or she has interest in one major, they can take it regardless of gender. They bare the uncomfortable life and they can achieve some valuable things too. For example, Zaha Hadid, Iraqi-born British architect known for her radical deconstructivist designs, liked to play with furniture since young. And architecture was her interest, and she usually put more than 15 hours a day on it. She finally became worldwide famous architect which women were thought not suitable for.

首先，我们来分析一下原因。不同的专业有不同的特点，因为传统的观念，有一些专业被认为不适合男生或者女生学的。

不适合女生学的专业有：土木、建筑、机械、车辆工程等等。原因是户外工作，容易体力不够和衰老，工作环境男生多不方便。

不适合男生学的专业有：护理、会计、古汉语等等。原因是比较琐碎，没有男子气的展现，挣钱少，工作环境女生多不方便。

尊重这个现实是对的，但是如果学生对某个专业有兴趣，不考虑自己的性别直接去学就好了。作为专业的少数派，会有不舒适，但也能得到宝贵的东西。比如扎哈·哈迪德，伊拉克裔英国建筑师，以她激进的解构主义作品而知名，她从小就喜欢摆弄家具，建筑是她的兴趣，也付出了只要工作就每天工作15个小时的努力。最终她成为了举世瞩目的建筑师，在不欢迎女性的建筑领域闯出一片天。

Second, it is not the question about universities but about students. The way they are thinking is more important. Such as nursing, female students are in absolute majority. According to statistics, male nursing students take only 9%. But increasing the male student’s rate is vital. Men who have nursing skills are very easy to find a job after graduation, and usually go into important positions in hospital like the ICU.But they will suffer a lot too. Male nurses will do more labor work, for example carry a 125kg patient on the table and they will take more night work.

Let the minorities can find good jobs and live a happy life. It will encourage more men or women into the major not suitable for them traditionally. It is the most effective way and real equal inboth genders.

其次，我们要转变学生的观念。人数不对等反而是机会。比如护理专业，女性学生占绝对的大多数。根据调查数据，男性学生只占9%。但提高男生的比例很有用。拥有护理技术的男生毕业之后更好找工作，而且往往被分配在重要的科室比如ICU。但他们也承受了很多，要多值夜班，要做很多姑娘们handle不了的重体力活，比如体重250斤的大胖子搬上台子。

让性别少数派更好找工作，过得生活幸福，这样才能反过来促进选专业。这是最有效的方法，也是男女平等真切的道路。

Third, it has specialty in research area for postgraduates. Since postgraduate students are enrolled both by schools and by professors, the gender preference is in reality. Most professors choose students by GPA, research experience, creativity and so on. But sometimes it is with the gender. Especially in China, there are more girls than boys who want to have a master or PhD degree, but some professors like to enroll boys.

So the universities can do something to balance it. It is better to clear the standards for a certain major. And universities can allow outside donations from companies or individuals to set up scholarship for a particularly gender. It can connect research and job hunting more closely which is fairer. And famous and successful people can help and educate the future colleagues in the same major.

第三，从事研究工作的研究生，有一定的特殊性。因为研究生的招收不光取决于学校，还取决于导师，性别偏好是确实存在的。大部分的教授选学生是基于成绩、研究经验、创造才能等等，但也有的时候性别起了决定作用。尤其在中国，想考研考博的女生占多数，但一些教授们却喜欢招男生。

所以大学应该有一些举措去平衡这件事情。最好设立对于专业招生的明确标准。同时允许企业或者个人的外部捐款，来帮助某一个特定的性别。这样可以让科研和找工作更紧的结合起来，这样更公平。已经成名的从业者可以更好地帮助自己未来的同行。

In conclusion, men and women are equal but the universities should have their freedom to choose who to be enrolled. And students should think over to choose their major regardless of gender. Universities should bring about good policies to encourage the justice as well.

总结来看，男女是平等的，但是大学应该有自由去招收任意性别的学生。同时学生自己认真考虑，不避讳去选择传统上不适合自己性别的专业。大学也应该设立更多更好的制度，去保证这个公正。
